Development applications help ensure new builds, additions, accessory buildings, and site changes align with the Land Use Bylaw and the community’s planning goals. If you’re unsure whether your project requires approval, contact the Development Officer before you begin.

Permit Process

Before any construction begins, contact the Development Officer to confirm if a development permit is required. Your application may require supporting documents such as a lot plan, scaled drawings, and in some cases an acceptable Real Property Report. Processing time can take up to 40 days depending on the application and completeness of materials.

Submit your application and fee for review.

Step 4

Review period (may take up to 40 days based on completeness and type).

Step 5

Decision issued: approved, approved with conditions, or refused.

Step 6

If needed, submit an appeal using the Development Appeal Form.

Safety Codes Permits: Building, electrical, gas, and plumbing permits are handled through safety codes agencies. As of May 3, 2022, the Authority Having Jurisdiction is ASCA (Alberta Safety Codes Council).
